Week 1: Introduction, Tarot Basics, and How Tarot Can Amplify Your Creativity

  • Welcome and Introductions: 

  • Tarot Basics: 78 Cards. Brief History. Major Arcana: Big Picture, Minor Arcana, Everyday Life, 4 Suits: 1-10 + Court Cards. Introduce Fool’s Journey as a character arc w/out going into too much detail or it will take up the whole class. 4 Suits and Characteristics of each.

  • Tarot for Fiction Writers Approach: Your Imagination + Storytelling Prompts + Tarot Interpretation= Creativity Unlocked. 

  • Practice with sample prompts

 

Week 2: The Tarot Prompting Process and Methods for Interpreting the Cards 

  • Parts of the writing process where tarot can help

  • The Tarot Prompting Process

  • Interpretation Techniques: Visual Interpretation and Traditional Meaning Interpretations

  • Practice with sample prompts

 

Week 3: Developing Characters with Tarot

  • Developing Characters with Tarot

    • Foundations

    • Adding Nuance

  • Creating Resonant Characters: Balancing the specific with the universal

  • Archetypes

  • Differentiating characters with psychological facet archetypes (the Persona, the Shadow, and the Self)

  • Randomness: How the randomness of prompting with tarot can help us reach beyond well-tread paths and come up with unique ideas

  • Play: How tarot prompting tricks our minds into a state of play and the benefits for creativity

Week 5: Getting Unstuck with Tarot

  • Novelty: How introducing something fun and new can help you combat stagnation
